Opening of the FAn symposium ‘Rewriting History’ (17 June 2026 – Maison de l’Asie)
On 17 and 18 June 2026, the conference ‘Rewriting History: Competing Narratives of Memory and the Colonisation of the Past’ was held at the Maison de l’Asie and the MSH-Raspail, organised by Vincent Eltschinger (EPHE-PSL). On this occasion, Patrick Boucheron, professor at the Collège de France and holder of the Chair in the History of Power in Western Europe, 13th–16th Centuries, opened the proceedings with an introductory lecture.
Through the figure of Cola di Rienzo, a Roman notary from the first half of the 14th century, Patrick Boucheron analyses the phenomena of archaeological reversal and competition over memory, two central themes of this conference.
