L'Expansion d'Homo Sapiens (March 24, 2025-INHA)

The third keynote speech of the day, entitled ‘The Expansion of Homo sapiens’, was delivered by Jean-Jacques Hublin, a paleoanthropologist, professor at the Collège de France and member of the French Academy of Sciences. Now found across the entire planet, Homo sapiens is characterised by great apparent diversity whilst remaining genetically very homogeneous, due to a relatively recent common origin. The notion of a homogeneous human species is, moreover, a scientific construct that emerged relatively late. This talk revisits the various forms of hominin evolution and the mechanisms that have shaped the evolutionary history of our species.
