Replay: Chloé Ragazzoli (EHESS)

Chloé Ragazzoli, an Egyptologist and historian specialising in cultural history and historical anthropology, gave a lecture entitled ‘Monumental Inscriptions and Re-inscriptions in Ancient Egypt: An Overview of a Time Under Construction’. During this talk, she explored how, in Ancient Egypt, the re-inscription of a monument – whether a restoration inscription or a visitor’s graffiti – brings the past to life in the present and bridges the gap between the ideal space-time of the gods, which is boundless and without direction, and the temporality of human action. Epigraphy and inscription practices thus emerge as indicators of Egyptian conceptions of time.
