Call for applications – FAn Doctoral fellowship

The PSL Research Program ‘Les fabriques de l'antique’ (FAn) is offering two doctoral contracts in 2025.

The Grand programme de recherche PSL “Les fabriques de l’antique” (FAn) is offering two doctoral contracts in 2025.

Application deadline: May 18, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. (Paris time).

The doctoral project must fit closely within the thematic scope of the program “Les fabriques de l’antique”, and more specifically within one of its three research axes described in the call for applications.

The recipient of the doctoral contract will contribute to the “Les fabriques de l’antique” program through their doctoral research and active participation in the program’s activities (conferences, study days, etc.). An interest in interdisciplinary and comparative exchange is required. Upon completion of the thesis defense, the dissertation will be published as a monograph with the support of the program. The doctoral contract is a fixed-term contract between a PSL member institution and a doctoral student, allowing the latter to fully dedicate themselves to in-depth and original research leading to the production of a thesis. The duration of the contract is three years.

Enrollment will take place under the supervision of a faculty member or researcher at Université PSL who holds an HDR (habilitation to supervise research), within one of the doctoral schools involved in the program. The successful candidate will be affiliated with one of the following research laboratories: AnHiMA (UMR 8210), AOrOc (UMR8546), Archéosciences-Bordeaux (UMR6034), CRCAO (UMR 8155), Centre Jean Pépin (UMR 8230), GREI (EA2120), GSRL (UMR8582), LEM (UMR 8584), LTE (UMR 8255), Orient et Méditerranée (UMR 8167), SAPRAT (EA 4116).

Doctoral Recruitment Conditions

There is no age limit or specific date required for obtaining a Master’s degree.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent. It is not necessary to have defended the Master’s thesis at the time of application. Proof of degree may be submitted after the interview, but failure to obtain the Master’s degree following the September juries will result in the withdrawal of the doctoral contract offer.

The doctoral contract can only be awarded to students enrolling in the first year of a PhD program in the 2025–2026 academic year. Recruitment of selected candidates will only be finalized after payment of doctoral registration fees.

Application File

The application file must consist of a single PDF file, clearly labeled with the candidate’s last and first name in the format: “LASTNAME_firstname_cd FAn 2025.pdf”, and must include, in the following order:

  • Information form

  • Cover letter explaining the candidate’s motivation to participate in the FAn program

  • Curriculum vitae

  • Letter of recommendation from the thesis supervisor, indicating the relevant doctoral school (ED) and the research laboratory to which the candidate may be assigned. (Note: The letter must be signed. A thesis supervisor may support only one candidate for this competition.)

  • Approval from the director of the host research unit

  • Four-page thesis proposal highlighting—on at least one page—the relevance of the topic and research question to one of the three thematic axes of the “Les fabriques de l’antique” program, and including a bibliography of approximately 20 titles

  • Proof of Master’s degree or equivalent, clearly stating the grade and/or honors (To be added to the file later, once obtained in the June or September session, for regularization.)

Candidates have until Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. (Paris time) to submit their application electronically in PDF format to the following address: contact@fab-antique.fr

Late submissions will not be considered. All applications will receive an acknowledgment of receipt no later than one week after submission.
